A City that truly became an Emotion!

I write this with tears in my eyes. And you know what, they are the happy ones! Ones that peep out when you see something extremely good and noble happening that you cannot jail them behind your eyes for long! They are meant to gush out with pride and happiness!

I could not keep my hands off for too long from writing this article…Oh no! the word ‘article’ would definitely do injustice to what I have in store! Let’s say they are the boxed up emotions that were waiting for their turn to flood out! Did I say ‘flood’? :)

Many of you would by now be aware of what happened in Chennai or rather what occurred in Chennai. I prefer the word ‘occurred’, since it makes me feel something very good has happened :)

Yes. The floods did happen and there occurred humanity, selfless love, kindness, sympathy, compassion, understanding and what not!! Even when the entire city came to a standstill, the living forms of the city arose, awoke and pitched in with all their energy and mobilised the immobile city!

Where were the so-called lawmakers or should we call them anti-social elements?! Oh they were busy playing blame games and other irrational tricks! But you know what, this was so tiny and unimportant to the public in front of the more ravaging issues.

It’s not every day that you get to witness people offering food and water to their neighbours when in reality, even they are unsure if atleast a morsel would be left for them, in the subsequent days to come! You do not see a woman, who has lost everything that once belonged to her, smiling enormously and patting her co-victims to buck up for what life has in store for them for eternity! An officer, who is otherwise believed to be lethargic, cannot be so loyal to his duty that he risks his life to rescue other less fortunate mortals!

While the city has come a very long way from what it has suffered, the bond still prevails and we all know this shall also drift from people’s memories to history books that will be taught to kids as yet another calamity. But the volume of respect and love that emerged from this will ever be etched on the hearts of people who call this admirable city their Home :)

Cheers,
